New Arrivals: Spring 2016

Combining an inventive use of colour, graphic print, and subtle tonal effects with a discerning selection of textures fabrics, Peter Werth’s Spring 2016 collection delivers looks which interplay classic menswear looks with a bit of contemporary understated style, always reflecting our knitwear heritage and working class style.

Peter Werth’s versatile warm weather wardrobe celebrates the onset of Spring. It features lighter weight knitwear, outerwear, trousers, blazers, footwear and shirting that incorporate a deliberately vivid colour palette of clay, sky blue, rust and canary yellow – inspired by David Hockney’s Los Angeles landscapes from the late 1960s.

Fair Weather Knitwear

Peter Werth was founded in 1975, originally producing men’s knitwear made by factories in Leicester and Nottingham. Four decades later knitwear remains an integral part of the collection. For Spring our signature Hemingford Cut knitted polo shirt has been reworked in fine gauge cotton and includes a more premium fashion collar. The soft handle, Brooksy short-sleeved versions feature stitch interest, tipping and stripes, referencing patterns from the 1970s – the era we were founded. The perfect extra layer and never too bulky, our Halton Cut crew necks are given a subtle lift and added interest through a well considered choice of stitch details, fresh seasonal colours and prints.

As Seen On Screen: Kill Your Friends

Some time ago, we lent some pieces from Peter Werth’s collection to stylists working on a dark comedy/crime thriller which was being made called Kill Your Friends.

Directed by Owen Harris, with a script written by John Niven based on his own written 2008 novel of the same name, the film launched last week. The lead character, Steven Stelfox (played by long time Peter Werth fan Nicholas Hoult) is wearing our stuff all the way through the film. Not only that, one of our Corozon topcoats and a pair of our Statham snaffle loafers feature on all of the posters for the film.

Here’s a bit of blurb about the film: London, 1997; the British music industry is on a winning streak. Britpop bands Blur, Oasis, The Verve rule the airwaves and Cool Britannia is in full swing. Twenty-seven-year-old A&R man Steven Stelfox (Nicholas Hoult) is slashing and burning his way through the music business, a world where ‘no one knows anything’ and where careers are made and broken by chance and the fickle tastes of the general public. Fuelled by greed, ambition and inhuman quantities of drugs, Stelfox lives the dream, as he searches for his next hit record. But as the hits dry up and the industry begins to change, Stelfox takes the concept of “killer tunes” to a murderous new level in a desperate attempt to salvage his career.

Stay Dry In Style: How To Wear Raincoats

Channel your inner Bogart, Hockney or Gainsbourg with Peter Werth’s twist on one of the most enduring pieces of men’s outerwear. Sleek, simple and functional – make it your go to style this Autumn.

Perhaps it’s the classic shape or timeless appeal, but there’s something so effortlessly stylish about a raincoat. There’s nothing better in a man’s wardrobe for riding out the storm through the rainy days on Autumn – and every other season, for that matter.

Twyford Raincoat Grey
Twyford End on End Raincoat in Grey, £149

According to a piece written in the The Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion: “Basic styles of raincoats have changed little since World War II, but raincoats for both men and women started being offered in a wide range of colors, in contrast to the older tans and grays that once were the only colors available.”

Twyford Raincoat Tartan

Tartan Twyford Raincoat, £159.

Although men and women in the early twenty-first century rely on cars, trains, and buses to protect them on the way to work (and the classic versions remain a business overcoat) the raincoat remains as popular a form of protection from the rain as it was when it was first conceived.

A decent piece of outerwear should form the cornerstone of any Autumn look. Characterised by a sophisticated use of fabrics and textures, our versatile collection of Twyford cold weather raincoat styles will shield you from the cold while conveying a relaxed confidence and timeless style. No wonder it has become one of our best selling styles.
